Webinar: Unlocking the transcriptomic potential of FFPE cancer samples

This webinar delves into a research endeavor that scrutinised nine distinct transcriptomic analysis methodologies alongside matched fresh frozen (FF) and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) cancer tissues. Typically, the constraints of cost and tissue availability hinder the processing of samples across multiple technologies, thereby complicating the direct assessment of performance, reliability, and the comparability or integration potential of gene expression data across different platforms. To probe the feasibility of harmonising gene expression data from various platforms, Dr. Arran K. Turnbull from the Cancer Research UK Edinburgh Center, along with colleagues, examined nine technologies exhibiting differences in resolution, cost, and RNA requisites. The research utilised sequential tumour biopsies obtained from 11 postmenopausal women diagnosed with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer and treated with three months of neoadjuvant anti-estrogen therapy. Each sample was divided into halves, with one portion snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen and the other half formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE).
